Anzac Day...
Anzac day (25 Apr 05, Monday) was a significant event in the Australian calendar... Apart from it being a public holiday, thee was also dawn service (which Hong Ee went at 330am in the morning) and also a 2 hour long parade along Adelaide street. From my understanding, Anzac day is to commemorative those who have died in World War 1 & 2... I read from the 'The Courier Mail' that there are currently only 3 surviving war world I veterans, the oldest being 107 years old... All in all, I guess the question of preserving the meaning of Anzac Day and to instill those lessons learnt to the youths are issues need to be grappled with before all the veterans gradually passed away...
The parade was a myraid of bands, veterans and their family in army vehicles or taxis. Soldiers were also marching and fighter plane/helicopters paid their tribute from the sky too... There were moments when I was a little choked with emotions as I saw some of the veterans holding the hands of their children or grand children walking down the parade... From the veterans' perspective, they must be feeling a sense of relief that they survived the war but yet a strong sense of nostalgia for all their comrades who had perish in the wars. It drawn upon me that it is a fact that human will grow old and wither; but what we need to do is to leave a legacy for our future generations... Only then will they appreciated what they have now and treasure them...
